I had a blast going on summer pier fishing, and I was really impressed with this rod's performance. As someone who relies heavily on its strength to catch large fish like makerells, I can confidently say that it delivers. The gear ratio of 5:1 is much better than the 4:1 I've seen in other rods, and I appreciate how easily they pull out my tackle.
The drag setting and lock system are top-notch, and the 20lb line I got with it works flawlessly. When fishing on a decent-sized lake, I found myself reeling in some impressive makerel despite being relatively new to pier fishing. However, I have to admit that I prefer using higher-gauge lines - size and weight really matter when you're targeting larger fish.
The two-pack of hooks comes with the rod, but I'm not sure if it's worth the investment - all I needed was one set per trip. Overall, this is an exceptional rod for anyone looking to tackle biginer or intermediate fishing, especially during the summer months. When it comes to its performance, it's a solid 5-star product.
Now that I've had the opportunity to use it more than once, I can appreciate its strengths and weaknesses. One thing that really took me aback was when I received my rod - there were some nasty scratch marks on both the rod and reel that looked like they weren't caused by normal wear and tear. Given how poorly the packaging handled the rod, I had to take extra precautions with the spare ones just in case it breaks.
Despite a few minor cosmetic issues, including an obviously flawed plastic construction from what I could see, this rod has exceeded my expectations so far. The 12ft length is perfect for distance casting, and when I cast out into the water, I feel like I'm casting on glass - strong, light, and accurate. If you're in the market for a new rod that can handle large fish on the pier, I highly recommend giving these a try.
